: | "Re Branding" myself? Ok, a bit of background:
I've been in IT for over 10 years. My primary expertise is .NET development, where I have about 7 years experience.
I currently work for a very large company in the United States. I'm a "Software Development Analyst" by title.
I like the work situation, as I get to telecommute most days. The only complaint I have is the pay. I feel like, based on my skillset, I make about $30K less than I "should" be.
I live about 35 miles outside of a major metro area. But the job I have takes me the opposite direction of that major metro. About 25 miles the opposite direction (all freeway, so the trip is relatively quick), but only on the days I actually have to go into the office.
My current position is also relatively low pressure and relatively low stress. There's the occasional late night and weekend, but they allow us to take time off to make up for that.
Ok, enough about that.
I was talking with a good friend of mine recently. He suggested I try to market myself as a User Experience Designer. Getting a position (and the skills) like this could potentially triple my income. This friend also taught me some Photoshop years ago, and thinks I have an eye for it.
I'm pretty sure I know what the job (UXD) entails, and I'm pretty sure I've actually had the skills to do it for a while.
The problem I have is that I don't know what path to take to market myself, or what to do to market myself as a UXD expert. Or if there are additional skills I could use to do so.
I guess the bottom line is this:
If I'm currently a .NET guy, how could I re-brand myself as a UXD guy? This is even something I could see myself doing on the side.
I would appreciate thoughts and opinions.Started By Monte on Aug 18, 2011 at 12:59:21 PM | | | No Responses | |
